Form and Meter

An Ancient English lyric such as Beowulf is exceptionally diverse from advanced verse. Anglo-Saxon artists ordinarily utilized alliterative verse, a shape of verse in which the primary half of the line (the a-verse) is connected to the moment half (the b-verse) through similitude in starting sound. In expansion, the two parts are partitioned by a caesura: "Oft ScyldScefingsceaþenaþreatum (l. 4).
