MEDICINAL PLANTS
The collection use of medical plants began many thousands years ego.
Hippocratic the father of medicine who lived in Greece wrote in his books about such drugs as hemlock, gentian ad many others.
Today many drug plants are cultivated and many drug plants are collected from fields and woods.
Some drugs are made from fruits, leaves, flowers, roots, seeds of the plants.
It is very important to collect plants in proper time. Leaves are collected when they are fully developed. The time of the date is also important in the collection of drug plants.
Flowers are collected before the time of pollination. If it is made carelessly the drug may be spoiled.
Drug plants which have glycosides must be dried at a low temperature.
Digitalis leaves must be dried in the same way.
RESTORED TO HEALTH
The doctor said that sanatorium would be helpful.
Last winter one of my friends, Sasha Petrov, caught a severe cold while skating on the ice. He became seriously ill and nearly died of pneumonia (inflammation) of the lungs. The recovery was extremely slow and seemed to be incomplete. The fever persisted. Sasha was complaining of a sense of great lassitude. He was suffering from a slight but irritating cough which as a rule became worse at night. Sasha’s health was decidedly impaired. As all these symptoms suggested the possibility of tuberculosis. I advised him to consult a specialist for the diseases of the lungs. He followed my advice and went to a clinic for chest diseases. X- ray examination did not reveal any signs of disease, there were no bacilli in his sputum. Nevertheless the doctor founds in necessary to send Sasha to a sanatorium.
The doctor said to Sasha: “Rest in the open air is the most important part of the treatment in your case. Sanatorium treatment will be helpful. All day long you will rest in a reclining chair.
They will you good food, rich in fats and vitamins. In two or three months you will return home able to work.”
