Civil war brought the abolition of slavery after the various branches of industry began to develop by leaps and bounds the incessant flow of emigrants is typical of that time, the extensive building of railroads and abolition of slavery. All these factors combined led the rapid growth of the USA, American Capitalism . At the end of the 18th century the USA became a highly developed industrial country. Negros were granted the right to vote . Realism was due to the radical changes in American realism was a style in art,music and literature that depicted contemporary social realities and the lives and every day activities of ordinary people.
Romaticism – with its emphasis on emotion, imagination and the individual. The movement was centered in fiction, particularly novel. Common themes and elements in realism is Pragmatism . it shows attempt to represent real life, ordinary people, ordinary speech in dialect , recent or contemporary life.
2. Walt Whitman
Born an long Island , New York, Walt Whitman was a part-time carpenter. Whitman was a largely self-thought, he left school at the age of 11 to go to work missing the sort of traditional education that made most American a author respectful imitators of the English . “his leaves of grass “ which he rework and revised throught his life , contains “Song of myself” the most stunningly original poem. Whitman’s greatness is visible in many of his poems.
3. Mark Twain
Samuel Clemens , better known by his pen-name of “Mark Twain” grew up in the Mississippi River frontier town of Hanibbal .Twain’s style ,based on vigorous, realistic colloquial American speech , gave American writers a new appreciation of their national voice. He spent most of his life in Hanibbal , so due to violence , he had seen many death in his early ages. His famous works , “The adventure of Tom Sawyer” and “Adventure of Hucklebery Finn”
4. O.Henry
His pen-name is O.Henry . his real name is William Sydney Porter. O.Henry was born in USA . he is known a short-story writer . he died at the age of 47. He wrote nearly 600 works and stories about life in America his famous works include: “ The last leaf”, “The gift of the Magi”,”The Ransom of red chief” ,” The furnished room”.

Apologetic literature – the writers did their best work to point in bright colours the social life. “Red blood literature”- it sustified the militarist expansion.
