1.1. the origin and main dintinguishing features of the novel as one of the prose genres of literature

• A lyrical idea outlined in the short story or life story taking without regard to the authers worldview, in themselves alone are still “insufficient for the birth of a work that could be called a story with good reason.”
• A short story is one of the most mobile genres of literature, originating from a simple anecdote and oral narration about an event. This is small narrative work in which a limited number of characters act and describe any one event.

• The heyday of the novel falls on the period of Romanticism (L. Tick, G. von Kleist, E. T. A. Hoffmann, P. Merime, E. Poe, early N. V. Gogol). In the genre of short stories, Maupassant successfully performed. In the literature of the XX century, the American writer O. Henry became a recognized master of short stories

American literature in each of its generations puts forward outstanding masters of storytelling, such as E. Poe, M. Twain or D. London. The form of a short, entertaining narrative becomes typically of American literature.
