CLASS OF 2017
August 13th, 2015
Greetings Parents/Guardians For The Class of 2017,
I would like to take this time to welcome everyone back to Fairmont Heights High School. My name is Mrs. Diedra Screws, 11th Grade Assistant Principal for the 2015 -2016 school year. I am delighted, excited and ready to begin another new school year working with such a wonderful group of students, parents/guardians. I have been an educator for 33 years and bring with me a wealth of experience (18 years spent in the New York City Public School System and my other 15 here in Prince George’s County Public Schools). This year is exciting as I will be working with the Class of 2017 “The Juniors”. (This means a brand new start, to a bright future).
Our theme this year is “Outstanding Academic Achievement for All”. Remember, “It takes a village to raise and educate our youth”. Therefore, we must all work together to ensure the success of our students and our students must know their responsibilities as well.
Class of 2017, rules keep people and processes in order; therefore, rules must be adhered to by all students at all times. Our students will know that respect will be required by all and know that we will not tolerate or accept anything less! Attendance is also a crucial part of our learning process and students should attend school daily and be on time. Excessive tardiness, absences or lateness to class or school is unacceptable. In addition, Fairmont High School is a uniform school.. Our Grade 11 students will be required to wear the appropriate school uniform and must possess their school ID badge at all times. Any student not adhering to this policy will be subjected to our uniform violation policy.
As we move into a new school year with new initiatives involving instruction, we at Fairmont Heights High School will strive to ensure that our students are prepared, college and career ready in order to be successful.. Our students face many challenges in this day and time and under my Administration, I will ensure that our 11th Graders are receiving the best instruction from our teachers. If they are attending school, they will learn; if they are not they will be at a disadvantage. It is the expectation that parents/guardians help us with your children who are our FUTURE.
I look forward to meeting and working with the 11th grade class and preparing them for Graduation in 2017. My personal motto is: “He, who can, thinks he can…Can Achieve!” and I want to see this happen for all the students here at Fairmont Heights. So, CLASS OF 2017 get ready! We will work together as a team of parents, school, staff and community to achieve outstanding academic achievement for all.
Educationally Yours,
Mrs. Diedra Screws
