Developing critical thinking
sUPPorting critical thinking
One aspect of critical thinking is the ability to put
yourself in someone else’s position. Asking students to
give advice to someone with a problem (in this case,
the fear of public speaking) which they themselves may
not have helps students understand others more.
Encourage students to use their monolingual
dictionaries to check the meaning of any words in the
Ways of overcoming fears box. Have the students form
groups and ask them to discuss the questions. After
the discussion, have students share their answers and
advice with the whole class.
