The  Yandex-Web  search  engine  was  presented  to  the  general 
public on September 23, 1997 at the Softool exhibition. The first working 
version of the search application called “Yandex” appeared in 1993, then 
it  was  a  tool  for  finding  information  within  a  single  website.  The 
program was created by CompTek, founded in 1988. 
Yandex was  not  the first search engine in  Russia (before Rambler 
and Aport appeared), but began to quickly gain an audience. In 2001, he 
overtook the largest search engine in the Russian segment of the network 
- Rambler, becoming the leader in Runet. 
By  2011,  Yandex  became  one  of  the  largest  Internet  companies  in  Europe  with  a 
capitalization of $ 10 billion (in 2013). With 4.84 billion search queries, the Yandex. Search system 
by  the  beginning  of  2013  occupied  the  fourth  place  in  the  world  among  search  engines  and  the 
second among non-English systems after the Chinese Baidu.
