Conclusion

This novel is known as one of the best works of H.Wells which tells about how mankind can change the world, however in my point of view people should not do this, because creating new life is in The God’s hands.

The application of some of the post colonialism theories and premises of the major figures of the movement on H. G. Wells’ The Island of Dr. Moreau makes it appear as an allegory of the situation of the colonialization.

First, the animals in the novel stand for the colonized nations. They submit helplessly to the plans and the deeds of the colonizer by being altered to resemble and behave like humans. In addition to being submitted to a law which is designed to prevent the animalistic behaviors and suppress them within those animals. The animalistic behaviors that are being suppressed include the instincts of predators and walking on all fours. Similar to the Third Space postcolonial theory that explains how the colonized nations transgress from being colonized (first space) aiming at the colonizer’s identity (second space), yet they halt in a case of in-between-ness that is the (third space). Eventually, they neither remained animals, nor did they turn into humans; but turned into beasts.

Second, the human beings- Dr. Moreau in particular- in this novel stand for the colonizers who went to distant places to spread their culture and get the riches of those places or simply to do things and experiments that were not approved among their peers back in their hometowns.

Third, the setting and the reference to geographical places. Dr. Moreau comes from London; it could be an intention for the criticism of the British Imperialism starting from the late 17th century.
