THE ROLE OF SCIENCE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIETY, THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF SCIENCE
Science is one of the most important channels of knowledge. It has a specific role, as well as a variety of functions for the benefit of our society. Science (from the latin word Scientia, meaning knowledge) is a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge. The earliest roots of science can be traced to Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamiya in around 3500 to 3000 B.C. Modern science is divided into three major branches: natural sciences( biology, chemistry, physics), social sciences ( economics, psychology, sociology) and formal sciences (logic, math, theoretical computer science). Scientists are individuals who conduct scientific research to advance knowledge in an area ofinterest.
The term scientist was coined by William Whewell in 1833. In modern times, many professional scientists are trained in an academic setting and upon completion, attain an academic degree, with the highest degree being a doctorate such as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD), or Doctor of Engineering (DEng). Many scientists pursue careers in various sectorsof the economy such as academia, industry, government, and nonprofitorganizations
