LABS IN ACTION: RESPONSE TO TERROR THREATS

The Dutch Customs Laboratory, for example, is one labora-

tory that has a potential supporting role to play in the event 

of the need to respond to a terrorist attack: it can be called 

on to provide chemical analysis as part of a contingency for 

national cooperation between laboratories off ering various 

specialisms. Fortunately, at the time of writing, the laboratory 

has never had to analyse a real terror-response sample, but it 

is important to at least provide for the possibility.
