The raccoon is a medium sized bear-like animal. Some people might wonder why raccoons live in towns. But the raccoons were there first before people. Cities grow, houses move into woods and fields where once wild animals lived. As a result, some kinds of animals move out. But raccoons stayed. They can live near people. People don’t always like having raccoons as neighbours. Because they can carry dangerous diseases. Raccoons sleep most of the day. They sleep on tree branches. At night, they come out in search of food. Dark fur around their eyes gives raccoons the nickname of “ m asked bandits” . Garbage is a large part of the raccoon’s diet. People often try to make their garbage cans hard to open for raccoons but they usually don’t ucceed, because raccoons are clever animals.
