ABSTRACT:
The Central Asia region, which was formed thirty years ago after the collapse of the former USSR, still 
cannot organize itself into an integration space in order to establish closer trade and economic relations 
between its member countries, as well as in the interests of ensuring reliable regional security. 
Despite the common background of socio-historical development and ethnic proximity, the states of 
the region still cannot overcome the contradictions caused by territorial and border disputes, as well 
as the existing problems of the distribution of transboundary water flows. The civil war in Afghanistan, 
which has been going on for more than forty years, has a significant negative impact on the situation 
in the region. The situation in this neighboring state has become even more aggravated on the eve of 
the completion of the withdrawal of the American military contingent, as a result of which the border 
districts of Afghanistan on the border with the Central Asian countries have come under the control of 
the Taliban movement. Non-regional actors such as Russia, the United States, China, India, Pakistan, 
Turkey, as well as international organizations (UN, OSCE), integration associations (EU, CIS, SCO) and 
military blocs (NATO, CSTO) are active in resolving the current situation in the region. However, the 
measures taken by them are mainly of a diplomatic nature, related to negotiations with representatives 
of the Taliban movement, as well as consultations on the current situation in the region between the 
parties concerned, which, as a rule, do not imply any collective actions to normalize the situation in the 
region.
