Emergency procedures
Finally, there should be clear procedures for dealing with accidents, illness
and emergencies when these occur. These procedures should include
(1) alarm procedures;
(2) evacuating the building and assembling for roll call;
(3) use of emergency equipment;
(4) first aid in the event of accidents (who is trained?);
(5) summoning emergency services; and
(6) controlling the scene of an accident (probably the task of the staff
member responsible for co-ordinating safety).

All these procedures should be made known to all staff and to the children as
appropriate, and practised.
SOME AREAS OF GENERAL CONCERN
Although we cannot go into the many regulations affecting the various aspects
of school life, it is useful to look in greater detail at three areas of current
interest which affect all teachers:
(1) Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations.
(2) Display Screen Equipment Regulations.
(3) Out-of-school activities.
