Scanning type of reading
Scanning text means quickly reviewing it to find specific information. Scanning is commonly used in everyday life, such as searching for words in a dictionary or finding a friend’s name in your phone’s contact catalog. Scanning and other speed reading skills, scanning is often confusing, but they are completely different. While skimming involves finding general information, i.e., basic ideas, scanning involves searching for specific information.
Before you start scanning data, you should try to understand how the text is placed. This will help you find the information faster. For example, when scanning a word in a dictionary or the name of a friend in your contact list, you already know that the data is arranged in alphabetical order. This means you can quickly move on to the part you want without having to look at everything. Therefore, scanning can be a useful skill to use in conjunction with scanning to provide general information about the structure of the text. Section headings, if available, can be especially helpful.
When scanning, you search for keywords or phrases. If they have a name, it will be easier to find them because they start with a capital letter or numbers / date. Once you have decided on a text field to scan, you need to zigzag the page to get as much text as possible. This approach results in a more casual look than fast reading skills such as scanning and measurement scanning. When scrolling the page down (or up), it’s also a good idea to use your finger to focus and track where you are.
Sometimes you may be looking for an idea rather than scanning a real word or phrase. In this case, you are looking rather than scanning. Skimming
the first text to help you understand the organization is especially important when searching for an idea. It is also useful to guess or guess what the answer is or the language associated with it. So there are words or phrases you can still use to scan the text. So the search is partially scanned, partially scanned. For example, if you are reading a text about skin cancer and want to find out the causes, you can look at the text to understand the structure, which can be a problem-solving structure; You may already know that exposure to sunlight is one of the reasons, so you can search for “sunlight” or “sunlight” and use transition words like “cause” or “cause” because you are looking for causes. you can scan. cause '.

I am allergic to my husband
Twenty-nine-year-old Johanna Watkins of Minnesota can't kiss her husband Scott or even spend time in the same room with him. She suffers from Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, a rare disorder of the immune system, which means she is allergic to almost everything, including her husband's scent.
Johanna and Scott Watkins ’encounters are very different from other couples. "Scott and I try to watch the show together. We can't be together in the room because I'm allergic to him, but he's on a laptop in the room three floors below me, and I'm mine. And we're watching the show at the same time." we watch and then we text about it while we watch it, ”Johanna said.
Johanna lives alone in a tent with sealed windows and doors and air filters. He has a severe form of mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) in which cells designed to protect him from external threats mutate and instead begin to attack his body. The symptoms and severity of the disease can vary from patient to patient, but this can cause Johanna to be allergic to almost anything and cause life-threatening anaphylactic shock.
Before marrying her husband Scott in 2013, Johanna did not expect her condition to worsen. She worked as a teacher and the couple loved walking together. Even then, she struggled with unusual rashes, irritable bowel syndrome, and migraines, but these illnesses got much worse after the couple got married. “Three or four years ago, before we were diagnosed, if I was closer to my wife, especially if my face was closer to Johanna’s, she would cough,” Scott said. But last year, the couple realized they couldn’t physically share their lives.
"We noticed that Scott was getting worse [when he came into the room]. My normal daily symptoms were getting worse," Johanna said. “And at one point he went to shave his head and came back into the room and I started anaphylactic symptoms in two minutes and he had to do it.
leave. "A week later, Scott wanted to see his wife again, but the same thing happened and they realized they needed to radically change their lives." It was a horrible fact that it didn’t work, ”Johanna said. I used to treat my parents, a lot of people, but it was horrible.
The treatments and medications usually given to patients with MCAS do not help Johanna, so the couple no longer knows when their condition will change. "There's no easy way to solve this problem. I want to keep John safe and see that his safety is at stake," Scott said. "Now one of the ways to take care of him is not to see him. I don't risk his life. We are absolutely loyal to each other and wait when needed. Is there a cure. Know."
Doctors are trying different treatments, but so far none has helped. “They don’t know if I can be healed, so we hope and pray for my recovery,” Johanna said. "I've been able to observe anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction. My life can end quickly. Life is weak - it can end." But as long as Scott continues, it will remain a part of his life, he says. "On the day of the wedding, we swore that no matter what happens in life, death will not separate us." I can say that even if this had happened in my 90s, I would have been faithful to my husband with that oath and I still love him. "
Scott says they are sometimes angry and frustrated with their situation. “I had to release a lot of what I expected for myself, and I had to accept what was given to us,” Scott said. He adds: "Johanna and I know how to talk, we talk a lot, we try to communicate a lot, so what we find useful is to engage each other as much as possible in the events that take place in our lives. .because we can't be together. "
Scott works as a full-time teacher and then returns home every evening to cook Johanna’s food. “It’s one of the ways I take care of her, and every day for the past year, one of my dear friends comes and helps Johanna cook,” she says. "He can only eat twice, so he's been eating the same two meals for over a year." Johanna can only tolerate 15 different foods, including spices, so she eats roast beef (beef stew) with organic celery, carrots and parsnip or organic lamb with turmeric, cinnamon and cucumber.
Meanwhile, the couple’s friends live in the Olsons family home, and their home has been renovated to provide a safe haven for Johanna. The Olson family refused to use all the fragrant products and did not cook at home at all. “I was very strict when someone smoked,” Johanna says. “I went to the pizza place a mile from the street and all the windows were closed and the room was sealed with special filters.
"But if the wind blows it in the right direction that day and I can even breathe, I can be tough. The house is very big and I'm at the highest level and if I have to cut the onion in the kitchen If so, I thought Johanna hadn’t left the tent for more than a year, just to make an emergency visit to the hospital or see a doctor. 'Iraq can do.
The only people who don’t risk her life are her brothers who help her take care of her. Before entering his room, they should not eat strong spicy food, take a shower with special soap, and take off their underwear. As soon as they entered, they wore masks and special clothing that would not leave John's room. Despite all these precautions, Johanna’s symptoms are getting worse after the visit. "I think when we grow up in America, it's normal to think, 'Well, if there's a disease, there's a cure, it's going to be fixed, and I'm going to go on with my life,'" he said. said Johanna. . "So I went through a sad process because I was diagnosed and sick." But it’s a great consolation that Scott is downstairs in the same house and can talk to him on the phone, Johanna says. “I have many gifts in my life and many blessings to be thankful for. "And it reminds me not to be selfish and to do everything about myself."
