Introduction
While we look to the dramatist to give romance to realism, we ask of the actor to give realism to romance - Oscar Wilde. Realism is simply Romanticism that has lost its reason ... that is its reason for existing. - G.K. Chesterton
Realism as the name suggests is rooted in the science of reality. There was little motion that was given to the fragile subject of emotions. Realism is one subject in art and literature or a school of thought in philosophy whereas reality that we generally refer to is the object that gets subjected to that body of study. It was Greek philosopher, Aristotle who broke away from the idea of realists philosophy (earlier advocated by Plato) is the real proponent of Realism. The idea of realism reposes full faith on reality and rejects any part of the idea even posing to being idealist.
Romanticism on the other hand profusely played with the motions of emotions. As a literary movement, a school of philosophical thought and an artistic way of looking at everything differently. Romanticism, also known as the period of the Romantic era. Jean Jacques Rousseau often considered as the father of romanticism. This new idea gave that renewed thrust to the power of imagination rather than getting locked to the logics of reasoning. This powerful movement literally empowered people to experiment with new ways of expressions. The conventional barriers were broken. In a way, it emerged as a designed response to deftly liberating from the clutches of disillusionment with the Age of Enlightenment, constantly alluding to values of reason.
Romanticism was to give that wide and open space for humans to explore its full potential. It was possible only when there is that opportunity to experiences life in its entirety and experiment with the different recipes of emotion. This meant to try out different things whether it is the different genre of literature to different streams of musical sound or for that matter tasting different flavours of cuisines or getting the flavour of engaging with different cultures. Romanticism is a form of art and literature that doesn’t happen in real life. Romanticism was about expanding the boundary of imagination and exploring the counters of emotions. At the highest level it was all about the idea of expression and celebration. It was that of harnessing the latent power of human nature while openly cherishing the true beauty of nature. It was all aimed at in truly nurturing the immense power of imagination. Romantics believed that man was born pure. He lived happily when stayed closed to nature but society constantly pulled him away with temptation and treachery. Therefore nature became a symbol of good life without the corrupted intervention of a bad society.
The Age of Enlightenment (1715-1789), it was a philosophical movement of the 18th century, characterized by belief in the power of human reason and by innovations in political, religious, and educational doctrine. It was thought during the Enlightenment that human reasoning (also known as the Age of Reasoning) could discover truths about the world and could be used to improve the lives of mankind. It is so much about casting off the superstitions and fear of the Medieval Era. There was an overlapping of this period of Enlightenment with that of the period of Industrial
