etc.  Thus,  Cockney  was  not  constant  historically,  as  there 
is  a  mutual  influence  between  the  literary  and  dialect  forms  o f 
speech3.  There  are  also  some  differences  o f Cockney  in  word  ac­
centuation  and  intonation  which  is  characterized  by  the  specific 
rhythm,  stress  shifts  and  prolongation  o f  vowel  sounds  in  speech 
though  the letter is  not phonological  in  it.
