Search problem 
Our contemporary society faces many economic, social and political problems, 
which made individuals find outside themselves a limited world that is not of their 
making, based on foundations or standards other than the foundations and standards 
on which it is established, which may negatively affect their social commitment. It is 
known that individuals vary from one individual to another. Another with their social 
commitment according to what the culture finds of moral standards in terms of good 
and evil, right and wrong, and therefore changes in one society with its development 
and change, as well as the process of social upbringing and the extent of its impact on 
society and the extent of the individual's awareness and awareness of his conscience. 
The university student, while living the process of interaction in the university, 
brings out a number of situations in front of him and faces academic and personal 
problems and difficulties with his study environment, as well as several problems 
arising from the pressures of life, in addition to academic and academic 
commitments. From the above, the study problem arises in identifying the degree of

social commitment among university students By answering the following study 
questions: 
1-What is the degree of social commitment among university students? 
2-Are there statistically significant differences in the degree of social 
commitment among university students that are attributed to the gender variable 
(males, females).
Objectives of the study 
1-Identifying the degree of social commitment among university students.
2-Identifying the differences in the degree of social commitment among 
university students according to the gender variable (males, females).
The imposition of the study 
1-There are significant differences in the degree of social commitment among 
university students according to the gender variable (males, females).
Study limitations 
1-The human determinant: students of various Jordanian universities. 
2-Time limit: The study was implemented in the second semester of the 
academic year (2020/2021).
3-The spatial determinant: the various Jordanian universities, both public and 
private.
Terminology of study 
1-Commitment
It is an important dimension of removing the trait of hardness, which is among 
the important personality traits that constitute a means of resistance when the 
individual faces some pressures of life (Allawi, 2020, 75).
And he (Ghaith, 2019) defines it as a feeling that drives people to do certain 
actions or work to achieve a specific goal, and therefore freedom of choice is limited 
in relation to this undertaking, as well as the alternatives available to social action.
Knew him (Farly, 2017 It is a relationship or desire between two parties and 
includes willingness and responsibility for the continuation of this relationship. 
2-social commitment
He (Al-Dulaimi, 2019) defined it as the individual’s self and actual commitment 
to the content of values and social standards, and refraining from everything that 
leads to their violation or distortion and in any field of various social relations.
And he (Zahran, 2011) defined it as “understanding and discussing general 
social and political problems, cooperating and consulting with colleagues, respecting 
their opinions, preserving the group’s reputation, exerting effort for them, and 
respecting social duties.”
