The Metal

 Developer tools for Windows includes tools for processing textures and shaders for
those who that have established game or graphics asset creation pipelines that are based on
Microsoft Windows infrastructure.
For texture handling use TextureConverter, a comprehensive tool to compress textures to the
GPU compressed texture formats supported by Metal. For details on usage, run
TextureConverter.exe --h
.
Also included are the tools for compiling the graphics and compute shaders for inclusion in the
app. The Metal Developer tools for Windows enable 
Metal Shading Language
compilation into
Metal Library Objects. For more information on how to use the tools, please see:

By default, the toolchain gets installed into 
%PROGRAMFILES%\Metal Developer Tools
.
On installation, you will find two directories:
iOS
contains the set of tools to be used when targeting iOS and tvOS.
macOS
contains the set of tools to be used when targeting macOS.
Release
contains TextureConverter.
The Metal Developer Tools should match the version of OS SDKs you are planning on targeting
for your release.

Besides the GUI installs, the installer also supports command-line installs as:
"Metal Developer Tools-Windows.exe" /S /D=C:\Users\My Name\Sandbox\Tools
Enable silent or unattended install. This will install the toolchain and skip the installer UI. The
silent option does not skip the Windows UAC prompt to allow installation of the toolchain.
Specify the directory into which the toolchain should be installed by the installer. This option
must be the last option to the command line and the target path must not be put into quotes.
