Describe
your university
My university is located in Hong Kong on the Kowloon peninsula. It’s
called the Open University of Hong Kong and was founded in 1997 right at
the handover of the city-state from Britain back to China. The main campus
is located in a district called Homantin which as you might expect is
densely populated and full of skyscrapers. The university has over 17,000
full and part-time students, most of whom are Hong Kong locals. However,
there are many students from the mainland as well as a sizeable number of
students who study by distance mode. Actually, the university was started
by the government as a distance learning institution under the U.K. Open
University charter. Since then, the face-to-face lecture component has
overtaken the original intent of the university to provide high quality
distance education.
