Bjarne Stroustrup

, the College of Engineering Chair Profes-

sor in Computer Science at Texas A&M University, is the 

designer and original implementer of C++ and the author 

of several books, including 

Programming—Principles and 

Practice Using C++

 and 

The C++ Programming Language

. 

His research interests include distributed systems, pro-

gramming techniques, software development tools, and 

programming languages. Stroustrup is actively involved in 

the ISO standardization of C++. He is a member of the US 

National Academy of Engineering and a fellow of IEEE and 

ACM. He retains a link to AT&T as an AT&T Fellow. Strous-

trup received a PhD in computer science from Cambridge
