Article report on Methodology- Teaching Reading
What is the role of games in teaching reading? Does every technology used in teaching process of reading influence on learners` knowledge? We all know that each method has its own way of improving reading comprehension. Despite bearing some minor differences between Integrating Technology into a Reading Program by Shawna White May and Six Games for Reading by Bank Street College of Education in the aspects of their techniques and courses, the similarities are also clear in the fields of their aims and results.
“Integrating Technology into a Reading Program” by Shawna White May is an article which describes beneficial sides of using technology in the reading class. In this article, the author believes that reading and technology are the two big key words in the education area. Moreover, she points that if both reading and technology combine into one, they could be an excellent teaching tool. For example, she advises using software like Kidspiration and Timeliner. These tools make learning process more interesting for the learners because of being kid friendly and used to create story webs and other creative activities. This highly structured method helps you to easily progress from one step to the next through a comprehensive system of reading with technology. Generally, this article serves to clarify the importance of dawning technology that the students can be literate in both books and technology.
In contrast, it is stated in the article named “Six Games for Reading” by Bank Street College of Education that playing games is one of the essential way to contribute additional practice with early reading skills. The six games which described in this article can be easily used by parents and teachers in order to help young learners put into practice word recognition, spelling patterns, and letter-sound knowledge. Also, with the help of this article tutors and teachers can increase their learners interests by selecting words from books which they are reading or recently read.
To sum up, despite of similarities and differences, these two articles assist one to enlarge their knowledge. In addition, nowadays in our country the people who work in the sphere of teaching are using these both games and utilizing technology in teaching reading. That`s why they are reaching their goals in their learners` reading abilities. Moreover, I strongly recommend all teachers to search and use both articles to improve their students` knowledge in reading skills.
