Task Groups
A
task group
is a group created by the organization to accomplish a
relatively narrow range of purposes within a stated or implied time horizon. Most commit-
tees and task forces are task groups. The organization specifies group membership and
assigns a relatively narrow set of goals, such as developing a new product or evaluating a
proposed grievance procedure. The time horizon for accomplishing these purposes is either
specified (a committee may be asked to make a recommendation within 30 days) or
implied (the project team will disband when the new product is developed).
