CHAPTER l. HENRY FIELDING- A BIOGRAPHY
1.1. Family History and Early Life
Henry Fielding was a playwright and writer at the age of 30 before starting a career as a lawyer. When Tom Jones was published in 1749, Fielding had been active in jurisprudence for 12 years. This article focuses on Fielding's legal background and the extent to which his professional experience as a lawyer and judge is reflected in his description of the law in Tom Jones. The analysis aims to have Fielding present the story to the reader and invite the reader to evaluate events and characters such as judges or judges. The document defines the language Fielding uses to set law as the main subject. Particular attention is paid to how the numerous "tests" in the language of Tom Jones enhance the character of the court. The main themes of justice, mercy, and judgment are linked to the discussion of the main characters and their actions, drawing parallels to Fielding's actions as a judge and his extrajudicial writings.1
Fielding's use of the laws of the game as a metaphor for Squire Western's views on the relationship between Tom and Sophia provides information for the discussion of West's character; and represents a contrast between his character and Squire Allworthy . Fielding's use of conditional and typical evidence appeals to modern laws of evidence, lawyers, and modern views of the law. An analysis of Attorney Dowling's character highlights the importance of considering all available evidence in context. The discussion of the minor story of Little Tommy in the previous parts of the article establishes a connection between this story, the structure of the novel, and the structure and presentation of the lawsuit. The article concludes that there is a direct link between Fielding's parallel careers as a lawyer and writer, the content and structure of Tom Jones as a legal case, and the active role of the student as judge.
Henry Fielding was born on 22 April 1707. His mother, Sarah, was the only daughter of Sir Henry Gould, who was King's Justice from January 1699 until his death in March 1710. His father, Edmund, was an army officer. a well-known family, but characterized by a "disturbing yeast" that has existed for generations. Sarah married without consent and, according to Lady Gould, " in spite of their love ". Sir Henry and Sarah reconciled, and in a will made 10 weeks before his death, he left her £3,000 on terms that caused a major rift between Edmund and the Goulds after Sarah's death.
Shortly before his death, Sir Henry bought a farm in East Sturda with the intention of settling it in Sarah, but the transport was never completed. Sarah's £3,000 inheritance was not enough to cover the purchase price, forcing Edmund to earn £1,750 to pay for his share of the farm. Although this worsened his financial situation, Edmund did not let it interfere with his extravagant lifestyle.2
After Sarah's death in 1718, Lady Gould accused Edmund of embezzling income from Sarah's estate, which was to be held in trust for her children. Edmund's remarriage in 1719 led Lady Gould to open a dining room on behalf of Fielding and her brothers, seeking an account of the income from the children's property and guardianship. The decision of the Lord Chancellor, dated 28 May 1722, took precedence in all matters for Lady Gould.
Fielding studied classicists at Eton 1719–1724–1725. It was here that Fielding solidified his lifelong friendship with his patron and dedicated to George Lyttelton dedicated to Tom Jones . Fielding was an avid scholar, but due to his "strong energy" he often became acquainted with the "birch altar". Shortly after leaving Eton, Fielding, then 18 years old and still working in the office, took part in a failed escape attempt with his 15-year-old heiress and distant relative, Sarah Andrew. Very little is known of Fielding's activities from 1726 to 1727, but by 1728 he was earning a living by writing.
