Conclusion
This work intended to help students to improve the primary skills with the help of sub- skills and strategies. Learning language by developing student’s sub- skills is considered one of the most effective waysto learn a language as the second or foreign. Because sub-skills approach reflects the idea of being teacher-controlled. It is the teacher who chooses what to teach, who decides which one should be taught earlier than the others. By firmly controlling the class, the teacher feels safe because he prepares for everything possible. While extensive reading approach reflects the idea of being learner-controlled. It is the students who select what to learn, who decide the sequence of learning according to their individual interest and ability. It should be realized that to change from sub-skills approach to extensive approach is not the change of the teaching method only, but the change of the teaching concept.
Reading, writing, speaking, listening and sub- skills are more than decoding shapes and figures as many teachers and learners think. Comprehension occurs when the reader knows what skills and strategies are necessary and appropriate for the type of text and understands how to apply them to accomplish the reading process and reach high degree of comprehension and retention.
As explored in the three chapters of the paper, several approaches, methods and models have been developed by specialists to understand how the process of skills works in order to supply the appropriate pedagogies for teaching the skills.
In spite of that most of University teachers still think that students come to university with the necessary primary abilities to deal with highly structured and marked texts such as literary materials. In fact, research has proved that students in most of times cannot read just at fundamental levels let alone advanced levels in which reading, listening, writing and speaking become more complex with content based materials.
Teachers can encourage students to become active participants and proficient readers, spekers and writers by incorporating instructional activities and strategies.
According to research, it is claimed that with careful reflection and planning, any teacher can integrate the language skills and strengthen the effect of language teaching and learning. In addition, teachers should try to encourage their students to use integrated skills more in order to communicate well in English. Even a teacher always are ready for the lesson, students should have enough integrated skills to gain all information properly. Except the above mentioned reading, writing, listening and writing sub-skills, teachers should pay attention the effectiveness of independent learning.
This research, though does not pretend to give all the answers related to the topic, but simply attemts to help teachers and learners alike to get key notions about the sub-skills and also to find methods for integrating some skills and strategies in learning language. It has been my aim to provide methods for teaching and developing the quality of teching for pre-intermediate students, but, it is so an ambicious project to be conducted in the actual available time. Thus, I wish more research will be conducted in the field to help teachers and learners as well conceive the most essential requirements for teaching.
