MEASUREMENT OF SULFUR IN MOTOR FUELS

Abstract:
Different types of fuel obtained in the process of crude oil refining contain different concentrations of sulfur. This 
depends on the sulfur content of the crude oil.
So, oil can be divided into 3 groups: low-sulfur; sulfurous and high-sulfur. 
Currently, various methods are used to reduce the sulfur content in fuels. One of them is the process of deep Hydrotreating. 
The process of deep Hydrotreating takes place using hydrogen (H2), catalysts ( granules in the form of cylinders) that contain cobalt 
and molybdenum. As carriers (matrices) are typically used aluminum oxides in a pure form. 
The sulfur concentration can be monitored using various measurement methods and analyzers. These analyzers include:
1. Analyzer of sulfur in fuel oil (X-ray spectrometer of monochromatic wavelength);
2. Hydrogen sulfide analyzer;
3. X-ray fluorescent sulfur analyzers;
4. Analyzers of sulfur in petroleum products (to determine trace amounts of sulfur in hydrocarbons);
5. Sulfur and nitrogen analyzer (principle of chemiluminescence); 6. X-ray fluorescent sulfur analyzers;
7. Potentiometric analyzers (R-SH).
