Abstract
– Speed, accuracy and safety are crucial requirements for railway transport. Security and accuracy are ensured by 
the use of hardware and software in the signalling system. The importance of the signalling system and the comparison of new 
technologies and their joint application are highlighted. Along with the increasing speed and intensive movement of trains, the need 
for signalling systems with reliable and secure software is growing day by day. The main goal of this work is to develop a hybrid safety 
and interval regulation system operating in accordance with both 1520 mm signalling system (Continuous Automatic Train Signalling 
(ALSN)) and 1435 mm signalling system (European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS)). The article offers unique 
concepts for the use of information technology and modern optimized energy systems. This new hybrid signalling system will offer 
solutions to problems regarding to the harmonisation of signalling systems along international transport corridors. As an example this 
article focuses on the location of Azerbaijan which is a crossing point for INSTC and TRACECA railway corridor. INSTC railway 
corridor is dominated by 1520 mm signalling systems, on the other hand, TRACECA railway corridor is dominated by 1435 mm 
signalling system. Considering these two international railway routes, proposed hybrid concept will pose a solution to increase the safe 
railways transportation as well as fast transit opportunity. In addition to the description of newly developed hybrid concepts and their 
implementation, the article presents a new framework regarding to the interoperability of railway lines operated with European Railway 
Traffic Management System (ERTMS) and ALSN system.
