An important issue is the role of the IT director in the process of creating and implementing an IT strategy. Despite the fact that the IT director is part of the top management team of the enterprise, his membership in the management team is often not formally observed, and sometimes even ignored. According to a study conducted by Newton advice bureau, in conjunction with Verysell and E-xecutive, 44.8% of respondents said that CIOs attend meetings on strategic company development issues “rarely, very rarely, never”. When developing an IT strategy, only 42% of CIOs are guided by the company's overall business strategy. A very important point is that 90% of the surveyed IT directors are aware of the lack of education in the field of management and the urgent need for such education. Such results could be reduced to the fact that the majority of Russian companies are at the initial stage of implementation of basic information systems. However, as the pace of automation increases, the role of the IT department in the organization will grow.
