A. Combining Sentences Using Compound Subjects
Rewrite the following paragraph, combining sentences where possible by using
compound subjects. Use 
and, or
, 
nor, either/or, 
or
neither/nor
to join the parts of a
subject. Keep the action in the tense of the two original sentences that are joined.
My mother does not like animals. My father also does not like animals.
However, my little sister loves all animals, especially dogs. I feel the same about
animals. So, a puppy is a pet we want our parents to buy for us. Alternatively, a
kitten is something we want our parents to buy. Friends with pets admit they
are a lot of work and responsibility. Every relative of ours with pets admits that
fact. If we get a dog, my parents demand that my sister walk it every day. Or
my parents demand that I walk it every day. Cats do not need walks. Kittens do
not need walks. On the other hand, my parents dislike litter boxes in the house.
I also do not want a litter box in the house. Baths are one of the responsibilities
pet owners have. Another responsibility pet owners have is taking their pet to
see the veterinarian. My sister does not let responsibilities scare her away from
the joys of pet ownership, however. Nor do I let them scare me.
