5. "New " technologies 
These last years, many implements and machines of 
soil tillage are available on the world market, but there 
is no revolution in the innovation point of view. Some 
are original, others only constitute either returns on old 
models or on old patents. Otherwise, the proposed 
models often differ only by few details, which lead to 
several choices for the user/farmer. There is some 
improvements in design and manufacturing methods 
and in managing the production. The most spectacular 
tendency is the development of combinations of 
implements and machines for reduced tillage: tine + 
powered rotor or harrow + roller, powered rotor or 
harrow + drill (mechanical or pneumatic)+ roller (or 
without), teeth + powered rotor or harrow + drill 
(mechanical or pneumati
c) 
6. Some final considerations 
At the end of these problems overview and 
requirements of soil tillage, as seen by an agricultural 
engineer, it is clear that the general tendency is 
oriented toward the reduction of the number of 
operations for the planting, or even in certain cases 
toward the reduction of the intensity of soil work 
(example: abolition of the plow except in particular 
cases). 
We have try to summarize soil tillage in five types 
(

): 

conventional type: primary tillage, then secondary 
tillage;

shallow tillage, then deep tillage. It is the case of a 
stubble mulching before the deep tillage; 

tillage of all the arable soil volume aimed in only 
one pass (case of powered implements); 

localized tillage (zonal-tillage); 

zero-tillage or direct drilling.
