4.5.6 Investment in fixed assets
The cumulative investment in fixed assets of furniture manufacturing industry in 2008 approached 50.8 billion yuan, up by 30.52% on a year-on-year basis. In February, the cumulative investment in fixed assets was 2.89 billion yuan, up by 70% on a year-on-year basis, the highest speed throughout the year. In December, the cumulative investment in fixed assets grew at 30.52% on a year-on-year basis which was relatively low. The investment in fixed assets of this industry in 2008 kept a rapid growth over 30% on the whole.

4.5.7 Production and sales by region
In 2008, Guangdong boasted 69.47 billion yuan output value of furniture manufacturing industry, accounting for 26.43% of the industry's total output, the highest in the country, up by 15.97% on a year-on-year basis. The total output value of Zhejiang was 37.258 billion yuan, accounting for 14.18%, up by 11.79% on a year-on-year basis. The total output value of this industry was relatively large in Shandong, Liaoning, Shanghai and Jiangsu. The tot al output value and sales value were small in Qinghai, Yunnan, Guizhou and Shaanxi. In this year, Guizhou ranked the first in China in sales-output ratio of 145.35%, followed by Xinjiang, Qinghai, Beijing and Yunnan. The ratio of Shaanxi was 45.15% as the lowest in China. Shanxi, Hainan, Guangxi and Inner Mongolia had a relatively low sales-output ratio.

4.6 Paper making and paper product industry
4.6.1 Overall scale and distribution
In February 2008, there were 8,242 enterprises in paper making and paper product industry, with 132,600 employees, a year-on-year growth of 4.74%. The total assets value reached 602.5 billion yuan, up by 15.9% on a year-on-year basis. The total indebtedness was 358.4 billion yuan, up by 14.57% on a year-on-year basis. In November 2008, there were 8,715 enterprises in paper making and paper product industry, with 140,700 employees, up by 2.61% year-on-year. The total assets value reached 698.3 billion yuan, up by 16.86% year-on-year. The total indebtedness was 413.9 billion yuan, up by 15.91% on a year-on-year basis.
In November 2008, the number of paper making enterprises peaked at 5,105, accounting for 58.58% in paper making and paper product industry. Paper making enterprises were 3,494, accounting for 40.19%. Paper pulp manufacturing enterprises were 116, accounting for 1.33%. Paper making enterprises had a large number of employees, reaching 75,200, accounting for 53.45%, and a year-on-year increase of 2.48%. The employees of paper product industry were 62,100, accounting for 44.14%, up by 3.0% on a year-on-year basis. The employees of paper pulp industry were 3,400, down by 1.55%. The total assets of paper making enterprises were the highest (469.7 billion yuan in November), accounting for 67.26% and up by 17.5% on a year-on-year basis. The proportion of the total assets value of paper product manufacturing industry was 26.29%, up by 15.01% on a year-on-year basis. Paper making industry had a heavy debt of 280.6 billion yuan, accounting for 67.79%, up by 16.65% on a year-on-year basis. Paper product manufacturing had a total debt of 103.4 billion yuan, up by 11.44% on a year-on-year basis. Paper pulp manufacturing had total debts of 30.0 billion yuan, up by 15.91% on a year-on-year basis.

4.6.2 Production and sales
The total output value of paper making and paper product industry reached 101.52 billion yuan in February 2008, up by 25.7% on a year-on-year basis. The cumulative output value was 700.57 billion yuan in November, a year-on-year increase of 24.64%. The sales value of paper making and paper product industry stood at 97.42 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 26.89%. The cumulative sales value was 664.744 billion yuan in November, a year-on-year increase of 21.86%. The sales-output ratio of paper making and paper product industry was 5.96% in February, declining slightly to 94.89% in November. The industry made 27.524 billion yuan of manufactured products in February, up by 8.69% on a year-on-year basis, and increased to 43.623 billion yuan in November, up by 40.7% on a year-on-year basis.
The total industrial output value of the paper pulp manufacturing stood at 16.838 billion yuan in November 2008, accounting for 2.4%, and up by 13.64% on a year-on-year basis. The total industrial output value of paper making reached 418.56 billion yuan, accounting for 59.75%, and up by 23.56% on a year-on-year basis. The total industrial output value of paper product manufacturing was 265.18 billion yuan, accounting for 37.85%, and up by 27.2% on a year-on-year basis. The sales-output ratio of paper product manufacturing, paper making and paper pulp manufacturing were 95.08%, 94.85%, and 92.72%, respectively. Paper making enterprises produced a relatively large value of 29.77 billion yuan in November, up by 53.05% on a year-on-year basis. Manufactured products value of paper pulp manufacturing and paper product manufacturing were 1.44 billion yuan, 12.42 billion yuan, respectively.
