A sure way to eliminate stratification is by means of a mechanical
‘‘mixer’’ (Fig. 5.43), which imparts rotation and turbulence to the air-
stream, or by means of propeller fans, which are mounted to blow
across the duct or plenum, as in Fig. 5.44. Note that good mixing is
the result of turbulence which creates some energy loss in the air-
stream and increases the pressure requirement at the supply fan.
