The central nervous system

• All mammals (and many other animals) have a central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS).
• The CNS is made up of the brain and spinal cord.
• Like the rest of the nervous system, the CNS is made up of neurons.
• Its role is to coordinate the electrical impulses travelling through the nervous system.
• The peripheral nervous system is made up of nerves that spread out from the CNS.
• Each nerve contains hundreds of neurons.
• The peripheral nervous system also include the receptors in our sense organs.
