The central nervous system - All mammals (and many other animals) have a central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS).
- The CNS is made up of the brain and spinal cord.
- Like the rest of the nervous system, the CNS is made up of neurons.
- Its role is to coordinate the electrical impulses travelling through the nervous system.
- The peripheral nervous system is made up of nerves that spread out from the CNS.
- Each nerve contains hundreds of neurons.
- The peripheral nervous system also include the receptors in our sense organs.
