, a private-
equity firm focused on soft-
ware providers, will purchase
the unit, McAfee said in a
statement on Monday.
The
enterprise-security
business
generated
about
$1.35 billion in revenue for
McAfee’s 2020 fiscal year,
roughly flat year over year, ac-
cording to a filing.
Based on its last fiscal
year, the company will shed
about 46% of revenue when
the sale is complete. Roughly
two-thirds of the company’s
6,900 employees work for the
enterprise unit, Chief Finan-
cial Officer Venkat Bhamidi-
pati said.
Shares of McAfee jumped
13% on Monday to $23.87.
The cybersecurity deal is
expected to generate a special
dividend of $4.50 a share and
reduce the company’s debt by
$1 billion.
The San Jose, Calif.-based
company has shifted its strat-
egy to concentrate on offering
security products for consum-
ers, McAfee said. The con-
sumer
business
produced
around $1.56 billion in revenue
in the company’s most recent
fiscal year. That is up from
$1.3 billion during the year
earlier.
McAfee said in its latest an-
nual report that its personal
protection service offers fami-
lies and individual consumers
private and safe wireless ser-
vices, identity production and
security related to their de-
vices.
