Steppes within the natural reserves of the Northeast Baikal Region are not a zonal type of vegetation, 
they are included in landscape complexes of forest and mountain belts of the western slope of the 
Barguzinsky Range. The revealed flora of the protected areas of the "Zapovednoe Podlemorye" is 1244 spe-
cies. Steppe species constitute 8% in the flora. The presence of steppe elements in the vegetation cover of the 
northeastern Baikal region is determined mainly by the terrain relief. They occupy a narrow strip of sandy 
beaches and slopes of southern exposures with sandy soils. In addition, species of the steppe floristic group 
are found in clarified forests and alpine wastelands. The flora of this group includes psammophytic and 
petrophytic species. Their presence in the mountain taiga flora is associated with a complex history of the 
formation of the vegetation cover of the region, the feature of which is the contrasts in the distribution of 
vegetation.
