Another change I find useful is to give each virtual host its own log files. Normally, 
Apache will use 
/var/log/apache2/error.log
 and 
/var/log/apache2/access.log
 
to store log entries for all sites. If you only have a single site on your server, that is 
fine. However, when you're serving multiple sites, I find it useful to give each site its 
own independent log files. That way, if you are having trouble with a particular site, 
you don't have to scroll through unrelated log entries to find what you're looking 
for when you're troubleshooting. In my example, I inserted the website name in 
the log filenames, so this virtual host is logging errors in the 
/var/log/apache2/
acmeconsulting.com-error.log
 file, and the access log is being written to 
/var/log/
apache2/acmeconsulting.com-access.log
. These log files will be created for you 
automatically as soon as you reload Apache.
With a server that only has a single IP address, you can still set up multiple virtual 
hosts. Instead of differentiating virtual hosts by IP, you can instead differentiate
