4. Why do some people follow fashion in your country?
Well, I guess it's nice to look good and trendy. People want to buy cool clothes in order to
make a good first impression on others, and they also want their friends to think that they look
nice, or elegant, or hip（＝cool)．Looking attractive is important in society. Wearing nice clothes
definitely gives people confidence. In addition, people enjoy spending time with pretty girls or
handsome guys：it's always more pleasant than talking to someone very ugly, I guess．Although it
makes me sound a bit superficial（＝shallow), I think it's true： we're all attracted to beauty.
