Welcome to your Basic English 1: 

Elementary course

Hello, and welcome to this English language MOOC developed for 

elementary learners by King's College London. In this MOOC, you will learn 

language for everyday situations. You'll become more confident in 

understanding and talking in English. Each week, you will listen, read and 

write answers, fill in a gap, click a button, or listen and repeat what you 

hear. You can also reply to each other in the comments section.  

 

This course will help you use English in everyday situations and help you 

practise what you have learnt. You will hear people describing each 

other's personalities, their jobs, where they live, what they do in their 

spare time and how they are feeling.  

 

Some of the people you will meet are at university. Others are working. 

Samir, Maya, and Amina are classmates on the same English course, and 

Mo and Sara are studying at the university. Do they remind you of any of 

your friends?  

 

There is help with some of the instructions in your own language, but if one 

section is too difficult, you can move on and come back to it at the end. Try 

to find a quiet space when you are doing the MOOC so that you can hear 

the character speaking. Don't worry if you don't understand everything the 

first time. You can listen, read and learn as many times as you need to. I 

hope you enjoy your new course.
