AB’S DON’T LET AB’S DRINK AND DRIVE!
FROM THE ABMA PRESIDENT
Spring 2017 Letter from the ABMA President:
Warriors around the world, retirees and friends;
I have been hearing and witnessing wonderful things from our Shipmates and I am very proud to be associated with some of the most professional and hardworking people in the Navy! You are the ones that are constantly improving the way we do business and positively impacting the ABMA! It takes a huge effort to operate those flight decks, hangar decks, pump rooms, arresting gear, catapults, tower, flight deck control, shore based arresting gear, airfields, air terminals, squadrons, firefighting schools, outlying fields, training sites, fuel farms, test sites, school houses, testing labs, recruiting districts, recruit training commands and the list goes on and on.
We are undergoing a few changes in our Board of Directors’ structure, so please understand that when you request information and it is not delivered according to the timeline you have become accustomed to. With that being said, you will notice that our website has received an upgrade and our Facebook page is constantly displaying relevant information. All of this belongs to us, so contact us if you see areas that we can improve upon.
The Tidewater Chapter is gearing up for an Awesome ABMA Professional Working Group from 7-11 August 2017 at the Marriott in Chesapeake, Virginia. Let’s do our part by planning now and working towards submitting agenda items, AB of the Year packages, Regina P. Mills Leadership Award packages, Scholarship packages, as well as Posthumous and Living Legend packages. Start submitting your TAD requests now to ensure proper funding is allocated for this very important event.
You all are doing a wonderful job in your many places around the world. I am very proud to be an AB and able to help make a positive impact at the command, throughout the Navy, and even the world! Thanks and keep up the great work! ONE TEAM ONE FIGHT!!!
LCDR Erick Stroud
ABMA President
ARRIVE ALIVE-DON’T TEXT AND DRIVE
THE CHAPLAIN’S CORNER
Spring 2017 Letter from the ABMA Chaplain
Warriors around the World,
I greet you in the name of the Most High! If you are able to read this message, you are doing just fine. We sometimes forget that our circumstances can be a lot worse than what we are currently facing and on the other hand-they can be a lot better as well. I am starting to realize that it is okay to be content with what I have and to be thankful for the life that God blessed me with! All too often, we want to live someone else’s life that is displayed on social media. We are not privy to everything that they may encounter on a daily basis but they pick and choose what they want to share with their friends/followers. News alert—we can’t pick and choose the cards that we are dealt, we are some of the toughest people in the world as it is displayed through our work ethic and our AB mentality. Let’s continue to press forward and be the best version of ourselves!
As we defend freedom and democracy around the world, I challenge you all to continue to lift one another up in prayer and commit a special prayer for our brothers and sisters in harm’s way and currently on watch as well as comfort and peace for the loved ones that they have left behind. Do the right thing and make the right decisions and you will get the right results!!!! Feed the faith and starve the doubt!!! "Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever." (Jude 1:24-25)

FROM THE ABMA SECRETARY/PAO
Greetings Fellow AB’s;
I hope this Newsletter is finding you and your family in the very best of health and doing quite well!
I have attached the flyers for the up-coming ABMA Spring and Fall Jamborees. There will not be a Summer Jamboree in Millington, Tennessee this year, but they are hoping to be able to put on a Summer Jamboree next year. The Spring Jamboree will be held at the “Blue Angel Naval Recreational Area” in Pensacola, Florida, Thursday April 27, 2017 through Sunday April 30. 2017. The Fall Jamboree will held at “Grassy Pond” in Lake Park, Georgia, Thursday October 19, 2017 through Sunday October 22, 2017. The ABMA Jamborees are a lot of fun, so pack up your camper, RV, or vehicle and head on over to the ABMA Jamborees, you won’t regret it. I hope to see you there!

Also attached is the new ABMA Membership Form. I want to thank Donna Dodson for volunteering to take over the ABMA Membership Coordinator position after the death of our Treasurer and ABMA Membership Coordinator ABEC (Ret) Robert “Stoney” Burke in December. If you have not received your ABMA membership cards that you paid for thru PayPal, please contact Donna Dodson and she will get your membership taken care of. Donna Dodson’s contact information is on the new ABMA Membership Form.
If you knows of anyone in the AB community that is sick, injured, or has died, or is going through a hardship, such as a total loss from a house fire, major medical issues, extended hospital stays, etc. contact the ABMA Chaplain and he can get the word out to the AB community. The ABMA Chaplain LCDR Erick Stroud has taken over getting the word out to the ABMA and the AB community as ABEC (Ret) Stoney Burke use to do via the “Stoney Net”. Thanks LCDR Erick Stroud for taking this on!
Please get your nomination packages in for the ABMA AB of the Year, the ABMA LCDR Regina Pearl Mills Leadership Award to the respective AIRLANT or AIRPAC by April 28, 2017. Also please submit your inputs for the ABMA Posthumous Legend, ABMA Living Legend and ABMA Isabela M. Gillen Memorial Scholarship by June 1, 2017. The ABMA Posthumous Legend and the ABMA Living Legend are to be sent to me, the ABMA Secretary. The ABMA Isabela M. Gillen Memorial Scholarship is to be sent to CWO4 (Ret) Terry New. Our contact information is listed above under the ABMA BOD and ABMA Staff.
For all ABMA Chapters: Please forward me a list of all your officers and their contact information including address, phone number and email address whenever you have your elections. You can contact me at (619) 578-1523 or email thunderdjt@gmail.com . Also I will need a copy of your ABMA Chapter’s By-Laws, if I do not already have them or if you make any changes to your By-Laws. If you’re not sure if I have the information on your Chapter, please feel free to contact me. Thank you!
Let’s continue to bring in the junior AB’s and get them involved. Keep your head on a swivel and stay safe! God bless each and every one of you and may God bless America!

JACKSONVILLE CHAPTER-JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA
Greetings from Jacksonville
There are a few up-dates to pass along from the Jacksonville area, recent additions to the local area include two new LCS ships to add to the LCS squadron at Mayport, these ships have AB billets.
Mayport was selected as a home base for a new U.A.V. drone squadron. NAS JAX recently cut the ribbon on a new Commissary.
We have a tentative date for our annual Fall Jam it will be 19-22 October at Grassy Pond, the cabins that were damaged in last year’s storm are scheduled to be replaced by then, more information on that is forthcoming, so if you plan on attending I suggest reserving a spot well ahead of time.

The Evening Prayer
I am convinced, Our Father, that your fondest feelings are reserved for the least pretentious and most genuine of us.
I am sure that Aviation Boatswain’s Mates are some of your favorites.
Certainly Aviation Boatswain’s Mates have yet to find the virtues of humility, or soft-spokenness or gentleness…
They do lead with their jaws….
And they always seem to be more ready to fight than to switch. They can be singled out by their red eyes,
and by a grubbiness which is a mark of their trade.
But their wills match their strong backs...
And their love of each other is a wondrous thing to behold.
They are the salt of the deck…
And the saltiness is honest and open…
And they are uniquely Your sons & daughters. We are grateful for them…
As you love them specially, we mark them particularly tonight.
Bless them every one…
And forever keep them from harm and hurt…
In Christ’s name, Amen.
