Coming Around Again

Once there was a rabbit named Reese. Each day he would jump around and play all day. He never seemed to have a care in the world. His mother had tried and tried to teach him to work hard, but it was to no avail. Reese resisted all efforts.

Reese learned quickly that he was a smooth talker. He could talk himself out of anything, and he could talk others into anything he wanted. One day he talked a younger rabbit out of his meal. The young rabbit had worked all morning putting together a delicious bundle of vegetables. Reese talked him out of his food. The young rabbit hopped off to get a bite to eat. Reese was becoming accustomed to all the rabbits doing what he pleased. But the rabbits were beginning to catch on, and they decided this had to stop. The rabbits devised a plan.

The next morning, the rabbits gathered up their breakfast of carrots and celery. Reese woke up late and hopped over to where the rabbits were working. He sweet-talked the rabbits out of their breakfast again. But this time the rabbits watched and waited. They had picked vegetables that were not yet ripe, and sure enough, an hour or so after eating, Reese had a stomachache. He moaned and groaned. The other rabbits gathered around him and explained that it was no longer acceptable for him to treat them that way. Reese relented and promised never to trick any of the rabbits again.
