2.1. Definition of Irrigation
Irrigation is defined as artificially applying water to
the soil. It is mainly used in dry areas, controlled
environment and in periods of dry seasons in order to
protect plants against frost. There are three famous types
of irrigation: localized irrigation, drip irrigation and
sprinkler irrigation

.
Drip irrigation allows water to drip slowly to the roots
of plants using two ways: directly onto the soil surface or
directly onto the root zone by using a network of valves,
pipes, tubing, and emitters; thus, minimizing the amount
used of water and fertilizer.
