arid  disbelief.  Her  heroes  are  lonely  and  suffering  people.  In  all  her  novels,  we  find  love  as  great  and 
mysterious force. It is the inner world of the character that interests Iris Murdoch. Her books arise out of 
the varied experiences of life.
