1.4.Research approach

There are three reasons why I choose to analyze this novel.First reason is because The Alchemist is interested in the story of philosophy and adventure.Second reason is because the main character is a simple shepherd boy who is able to achieve his impossible dreams.The last reason, this novel bring me to the past is when the Andalusian era still prevail, because we can know the history of that place.In this study of this novel, I am not the first examined previously.The first by scientist Oktawiada Wijayanti that analyzed “The influence of setting towards Santiago’s characteristics as seen in Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist.The study was conducted in 2007.The second study is from Nuri Aprilia scientist of Indonezia.The researcher uses individual psychology approach to analyze this novel.
