Abdulhamid Suleiman, who created wonderful examples of poetry under the pseudonym Cholpon, was born in 1897 in Andijan to a family of artisan farmers. He first studied at the old school, then at madrassas in Andijan and Tashkent. At the age of 16-17, Abdulhamid, who had a good education, began to create.
His father, Sulaymonqul Mullah Muhammad Yunus oglu, was one of the most influential people in Andijan and was engaged in trade. He was one of the most educated men of his time, and he himself wrote poetry. It is said that at that time the father of the future poet composed a devon from his humorous poems.
Cholpon's mother, Aisha Aya, though uneducated, had a great influence on her son's work. Because he enjoyed the endless treasures of folk songs and fairy tales.
The father also taught his son in a Russian-language school. The future poet became an educated man with a thorough knowledge of Uzbek, Turkish, Persian, Arabic and Russian languages. Due to his strong talent and reading skills, Abdulhamid's poems were published in the Turkistan Olkasi newspaper at the age of 16-17.
From the very first works of Cholpon, the boundless love for the oppressed people of Turkestan under the oppression of the invaders was clearly visible. He wanted to see the people free and happy. He believed that in order to do this, people need to be awakened from their slumber of ignorance and enjoy enlightenment and science. At the same time, he knew that the Russian invaders would not allow the nation to become enlightened. It was obvious to the poet that there is no enlightenment without free will and no enlightenment without enlightenment.
That is why Cholpon had high hopes for the February 1917 revolution in Russia. But this revolution did not give true freedom to Turkestan. Because freedom is not a charity given by another person or class, or a nation, but a blessing gained in struggles.
A coup d'etat in October of that year also dashed the poet's last hopes.
The desire to reflect the plight of the people oppressed by national oppression and to save the people from such a situation has become the direction of Cholpon's work.
Cholpon's poetry was able to create a poetic world that is unique, with its sincerity, charm, impact, and emotional color.
In addition to his unparalleled poetic discoveries, Cholpon is the author of the first Uzbek novel, Diology (two books), Night and Day, written in 1935-37. Book 2 of the novel was destroyed after Cholpon's imprisonment.
In 1926, the drama "Bright" was created. The work has not lost its impact, both in terms of artistic appeal and in terms of subject matter.
As a translator, Cholpon contributed to the development of the spirituality of our people with his translations from the works of famous writers such as Shakespeare, Blok, M. Gorky, Thakur.
The poet was arrested as a "nationalist" on July 13, 1937, one day before his beloved student Osman Nasir. After torture and humiliation, on October 4, 1938, an Uzbek genius poet was shot dead in a secluded place near Tashkent.
The death sentence was handed down on October 5, 1938.
Cholpon's work has long been hidden from students. Cholpon was one of the brightest figures of Uzbek poetry, so he tore the veil of transient clouds and began to shine again in the sky of our national poetry.
