A Descriptive Literature Review 

The  literature  review  is  an  essential  approach  to  conceptualise  research  areas  and  survey  and  synthesise  prior 

research  [Webster  and Watson,  2002]

. 

It  directly  contributes  to  a  cumulative  research  culture.  It  is  suggested  that 

the lack of review articles has been hindering the progress of IS field [Webster and Watson, 2002].

A literature review can  be  conducted in  different ways. Figure 2 shows four methods of literature review: Narrative 

Review,  Descriptive  Review,  Vote  Counting,  and  Meta-Analysis.  These  four  review  methods  are  placed  in  a 

qualitative-quantitative continuum to illustrate their different focuses [King and He, 2005].
