DO YOU KNOW THAT

Mendeleyev planned to present his paper on the periodic table at the meeting of the Russian Chemical Socicty on Mareh 6, 1869, but on that day he was ill. His friend N. S. Mcnshutkin (1842-1907), a noted Russian analytical chemist who was a colleague at the University of St. Petersburg read die paper for him. The communication did not evoke any unusual interest at this meeting.
