China's main investors have remained broadly stable. Inflows from the US and Europe have dropped, but regional investment has continued to increase as flows from ASEAN countries grow. Singapore, the Virgin Islands, South Korea, the Cayman Islands, Japan, Germany and the United States count among major investors. By the end of 2020, more than 80 percent of countries and regions around the world had received investment from China. Chinese enterprises abroad paid taxes of $44.5 billion to the local governments of foreign countries and regions, and hired a total of 2.188 million foreign employees in 2020.
