Abstract.
The analysis of the norms of law as the most important element of the mechanism of 
legal regulation from the point of view of the theoretical and legal study of the criteria for their 
classification is undoubtedly of significant importance in the light of increasing the effectiveness 
of legal technology, especially of its type as a rule-making technique. In the article, the authors, 
considering the classification of legal norms and examining the criteria of this classification 
from the perspective of modern legal science, determine a specific list of criteria for the classifi-
cation of legal norms, which, in their opinion, allows to more fully reveal the essence of legal 
norms as one of the most important theoretical and legal categories.
