The article studies water-based emulsions of paints and varnishes. The conditions for the crea-
tion of water-emulsion systems of binding coatings have been investigated. The effect of the concen-
tration of the accelerator on the duration of hardening of an epoxy water emulsion has been studied. 
Water-based paints are one of the budget solutions in surface painting. A simple paint compo-
sition, a breathable topcoat - these are the advantages of these paints. Water based paint is completely 
odorless. After drying, the emulsion paint allows air to pass through, i.e. the walls are breathing. The 
coating turns out to be slightly less durable than after oil paints, it can be washed. Increased require-
ments for environmental protection and increased control over gas emissions from industrial enterpris-
es made it necessary to change the range of paints and varnishes in order to expand the production of 
economical and less environmentally harmful paints and varnishes. These include, in particular, water-
based film-forming systems. At present, the share of water-based paints and varnishes in the total out-
put of paints and varnishes in some industrialized countries is 20-30% [1]. 
The first aqueous formulations used to obtain protective coatings were water-based paints 
based on natural and synthetic latexes. They began to be used abroad in the 40s of this century. Ad-
vances in the field of emulsion polymerization and research on the colloidal-chemical properties of 
polymer dispersions and the mechanism of film formation have made it possible to significantly ex-
pand both the range and the scope of application of water-based paints and varnishes. In the technolo-
