  1. Translation of a literary text as a separate problem of translation studies;

  2. Equivalence in the translation of emotive prose.




The aim of lesson: Providing the basic theoretical information on the problems of translation of literary texts; outlining and clarifying the main peculiarities of translation of literary texts.

Pedagogical objectives

The results of training activity

  • Providing the theoretical data connected with the general considerations of literary texts in relation to translation studies;

  • Describing the specific features of the problem of equivalence in the translation of emotive prose; describing the cases illustrating the flexibility and broader character of equivalence in the translation of texts belonging to belles-lettres style;

  • Describing the cases illustrating the peculiarities of translation of original stylistic devices (metaphor, metonymy, epithet, allusion, alliteration, etc.).




  • Systematizing theoretical points connected with the main distinguishing features of literary texts and clarifying the peculiarities of their translation;

  • Clarifying the distinctive features of equivalence in the translation of literary texts;

Identifying the cases illustrating the flexibility and broader character of equivalence in the translation of texts belonging to belles-lettres style;

  • Clarifying distinctive features of cases with translation of original stylistic devices (metaphor, metonymy, epithet, allusion, alliteration, etc.).
