Practical lesson. Quizzing.

Plan (Contents) of the lesson

  1. Translation of a literary text: general problems and distinctive features;

  2. Translating original stylistic devices functioning in the literary texts (metaphor, metonymy, simile, etc.).

  3. Translating the extracts from literary texts. Analyzing variants of translation.


The aim of the lesson: Developing theoretical knowledge and practical skills connected with the problems of translation of literary texts; expanding knowledge and developing skills on the use of ways of translating literary texts.



Pedagogical objectives

The results of training activity

  • Expanding knowledge on the general considerations of literary texts in translation studies;


  • Expanding knowledge on the specific features of the problem of equivalence in translating stylistic devices in the literary texts and developing skills on the use of different ways of translating stylistic devices;

  • Expanding knowledge about the distinguishing features of comparative translation analysis of literary texts and developing skills needed for the comparative analysis of SL and TL literary texts.




  • Outlining the main distinguishing features of literary texts and clarifying the peculiarities of their translation;




  • Clarifying the specific features of equivalence in the translation of literary texts and applying the ways of rendering stylistic devices to the translating process;




  • Clarifying the distinguishing features of comparative translation analysis of literary texts and carrying out the comparative translation analysis to SL and TL literary texts.
